The easiest version of this work happens in an empty house. Nobody is cold, no food is thawing, and there is no negotiating over which afternoon the power goes off. Do you work on base housing?
No. Our work is off base: houses, rentals, and residential properties in the neighborhoods around F.E. Warren. On-base housing is handled through the installation’s own privatized housing arrangement, and that is not something we are part of. If you are unsure which category your home falls into, ask us on the first call and we will tell you straight rather than send someone out.
How long will the power be off?
On an ordinary residential swap, roughly four to six hours, with the job finishing the same day. If the mast, meter base, or service entrance also needs attention, plan on longer. We arrange the utility disconnect ahead of time and, in winter, take the warmer part of the day so the house does not sit cold.
The panel says Federal Pacific. Does it really have to go?
We recommend replacing it. Stab-Lok breakers have a long documented history of failing to open on a fault, and a breaker that will not trip leaves the wiring behind it unprotected. What size panel should the house end up with?
Two hundred amp service is the usual answer for a modern household, but the number comes from a load calculation rather than a rule of thumb. Heating type matters most, then the kitchen, then anything with a motor. If a car charger or a hot tub is anywhere in your plans, say so during the walk so the capacity is there rather than added later at more cost.
Do you label the panel and leave documentation?
Every circuit gets labeled so the next person to open that door can read it, whether that is us on a later call, a tenant, or an inspector at resale.
